Our First Party at El Cortijo de los Caballos

Well we thought we deserved to be the first to use the Cortijo for a party so we decided upon our daughters 1st Birthday/Christening party.  The weather was fabulous so we instructed our guests to bring swimwear as we knew we would not be able to keep them out of the pool.  The very retro pool table and chairs went down a treat with our guests enjoying endless jugs of Sangria and Pimms whilst keeping cool in the pool.  Scarlett Rose had a fantastic time and absolutely loved being centre of attention for the day (not that this varies from any other day) so we couldn´t have been happier.  I think we will be repeating the day for my husbands birthday in September and i am already starting to plan my 40th bash there.

I have to say a big thank you to Nikki from Posh Parties for the BBQ which just kept coming and coming and a massive thank you to Little Lolas Cupcakes for the gorgeous Scarlett Rose inspired Cupcakes.  I arranged them in an informal fashion in the cake chiringuito and I have to say they were my favorite part of the day, truly scrumptios and the giant cupcake with mini cupcake on top was divine :)

We had around 50 guests and it was a great success with two of our guests booking the Cortijo for next year to renew their wedding vows!

We have just had our first guests arrive at the cortijo and are booked now until mid October so very busy and next year is looking even busier with us booking 3 weddings in the past week.  So now that the renovation is completed it is time to knuckle down with my Wedding Planner head on and get all these weddings for next year sorted :)

Our Beautiful New Rooms

Well I am so pleased to say that I have finally finsihed the refurbishment of all our Casitas and now just have to tackle the 3 bed cottage and indoor bar area.  It has been a struggle and very hard work but well worth the rewards as we have just taken our 5th wedding booking and 3rd holiday booking :)

I feel that I have done the Cortijo justice in retaining all of its character and working with the property rather than against it.  It really is a one off beauty in the most amazing location.  How lucky I am to have found it!

I have to say a big thank you to Jenni from www.byjenniferjane.com as her photographs have really brought the Cortijo to life.  Jenni really fell in love with the Cortijo and understood its character and this really shows in her photographs.  I cannot recommend Jenni highly enough whether it be for property shots, portraits or weddings - she is truly talented.

Jenni is coming back on Thursday to take photos of the gardens and grounds as well as our romantic pool and tower rooms. So keep an eye out for these as I am sure they will be wonderful!

El Cortijo de los Caballos in now under new management by me :)

Well after many years of searching I have finally found my 'Project Wedding Venue'.

I found El Cortijo de los Caballos purely by chance when searching for a wedding venue for a client. The Cortijo was originally run as a small holiday complex in the 80's and 90's but has not been used much for a quite a few years now.

When I came to visit the Cortijo for the first time I realised I had finally found the perfect property for me to develop as a truly wonderful wedding venue and after a few discussions with the owners they decided to give me free reign with the Cortijo as luckily they wished to retire :)

Well it has turned out to be a slightly bigger project than I was originally looking for but I am embracing it and really enjoying getting my teeth stuck into the refurbishment of the 13 self catering apartments.  With an 8 month old daughter in tow this is not proving easy and I may have to knock on a few child minders doors over the next few weeks but I'm sure Scarlett Rose wont hold this against me as she will no doubt enjoy many a fun day splashing around in the lagoon swimming pool this summer!

I sent out a short email to local Wedding & Event planners and suppliers on Friday and my phone has not stopped ringing with impatient Wedding Planners wishing to view the Cortijo immediately - so an even busier week ahead for me.

I plan to use this blog to keep people up to date with the developments at the Cortijo with photos coming soon of the interior.  I will also post photos of our weddings & events when they happen.  If you have something you feel is worth me putting on here please feel free to get in touch.
